Economy

Ecuador's economy is structure around exports. The nation has a GDP of an estimated 97.80 billion dollars. The nation's largest sources of income are from the exportation of bananas, oil, coffee, and flowers. While these exports are produce revenue within the country, it is rarely distributed equitably. The World Bank reports that in 2017, 22.9% of Ecuador's population was living beneath the poverty rate. Well paying jobs can be challenging for many citizens to find, and as a result many Ecuadorians, particularly young men, travel abroad to find better paying work and send their wages home to their families. Moreover, Ecuador is working to find balance between rapidly exporting goods and finding ways to make these goods sustainable. Deforestation and depletion of national resources are a challenge created by industries such as oil and bananas.
